Az előző Opera 12.12 snapshot óta viszonylag sok idő telt el, és ezt a fejlesztők is érezték.
A programozók úgy döntöttek, hogy nem húzzák tovább a rajongók idegrendszerét, közzétesznek egy újabb előzetest. A buildszámból egyébként jól látható, hogy a háttérben gőzerővel folyik a munka - az előző b1662 volt, míg a most megjelent b1680 -, csak most viszonylag kevés publikus verzió lát napvilágot.
